Too often you read in the newspapers or the Yellow Pages of attorneys who may have stolen their client’s money or treated their clients poorly. Immigration Law is especially susceptible to these problems because as an immigration attorney, most of my immigration clients are people who are unfamiliar with the American Legal System, speak limited English, and come from cultures where is not customary to seek legal assistance.
Many lawyers – including immigration lawyers – market themselves with promises of “free consultation” or “no payment until results are obtained”. Others may claim to be “America’s Best Immigration Law firm” or America’s Best Immigration Lawyer”.
It is important to remember that behind every case there is a real human being and often, his or her family. The very lives and future of real human beings hinges on our performance as immigration attorneys and our ethical conduct of the practice of law.
Our clients look at us as their way to achieve that same American Dream that we already possess. They come to us to seek immigration to America. We not only represent our lawfirms and ourselves in the practice of immigration law. We represent America’s legal system and all that is fair and just about our great Nation. As immigration lawyers we owe a higher duty to our clients because so much rests upon our shoulders.
